Police on Arizona, said that the father killed his daughters before shooting himself in an attempted murder-suicide while being locked in a custody battle with his estranged wife.

The Pima County Sheriff’s department said the man shot and killed his daughters, who were 5 and 8 years old, before shooting himself in the head.

He was taken to a hospital, where he is on life support, officials said. Officers arrived at the home located in the 5700 block of North Kolb Road in Tucson around 7:00 p.m.

They responded to the home after the children’s mother called 911 to report that her husband was threatening to hurt the children.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said that father had visitation of the girls at the time of the tragedy. The father recently moved into a condo, which was sparsely furnished, when he killed his daughters.

Police said that officers tried to talk to the man from outside the front door, but soon after, they heard a shot being fired so they forced entry into the house.

The father and his two daughters were found inside, all with gunshot wounds.

The eight years old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The five-year-old girl was taken to a hospital, but succumbed to her injuries. The father was also taken to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
