Married woman sets lover on fire in argument over $15 she used to buy potatoes

A married woman was arrested after she set her lover on fire during a fight over $15.

The woman of Masvingo, Zimbabwe, is accused of setting her lover, Hardlife Ndlovu, 34, who is also married, on fire.

Ndlovu allegedly lied to his wife and told her that he was going to watch a soccer game at a shop, but instead, he went to the home of his lover, Juliet Marega, 31, for sex.

During that time, the two lovers got into an argument over a debt of $15. Ndlovu said that he gave Marega the money to buy potatoes.

However, she refused to repay the debt. Neighbors said that they heard the couple fighting before hearing Ndlovu screaming for help.

When they entered the home, the found Ndlovu rolling on the floor and he was on fire. Ndlovu suffered third-degree burns to his body during the attack that took place about 7:00 p.m.

The woman told police that Ndlovu, demanded payment and took away her cellphone. He then allegedly punched Marega. In return, a furious Marega sprayed Ndlovu with paraffin and set him on fire.

Ndlovu suffered severe burns on his chest, back, head, abdomen and limbs. He was rushed to the Masvingo General Hospital, and was later transferred to Harare Central Hospital, where he is in critical condition.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said that Marega was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
