(Scroll down for video) A suicidal man was saved by the Turkish president, who took the time to speak to him and promised to help him.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stopped on his way to prayers on Friday, after spotting the suicidal man who wanted to jump from a bridge.
Erdogan ordered his motorcade to stop while they were crossing the Bosphorus Bridge, which connects Europe to Asia.
His security detail then walked over to the man, who was on the other side of the railing, and spoke to him. The body guards told the suicidal man that the president wanted to speak to him.
After seeing the president in the car, the man agreed to climb back to land and was taken to the president.
After a few moments of talking with Erdogan, the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, kissed the president’s hand and he was escorted to safety.
Officials said that police had been trying to save the man, who was suffering from depression, for nearly two hours, before the president intervened.
