A man was rushed to a hospital after being shot twice by his brother because he dared to shoot him following a dispute, police in Florida said.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 21-year-old Joel Almonte, after being accused of shooting his brother, 28-year-old Gilbert Rivera.
Almonte was charged with 2 counts of attempted murder as 21-year-old Tyler Harris, was also shot during the altercation.
He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail, and his bail was set at $600,000.
According to the police investigation, Almonte and Rivera had been arguing all day after Almonte allegedly disrespected his mother.
At some point, Almonte told Rivera that if he did not leave him alone, he would have to shoot him. Rivera took possession of his brother’s rifle and handed it to him.
He then dared Almonte to shoot him. Almonte backed Rivera into a corner and shot him twice at close range. Rivera was hit in the arm and leg.
Police officers who arrived at the home located in the 800-block of Vicksburg Street around 4:00 p.m., arrested Almonte without incident.
Officer then went into the home and found Rivera lying on the floor with injuries to the arm and leg. Rivera was taken to the Central Florida Regional Hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wounds.
Harris was nearby when the shooting occurred and was injured in the arm and leg. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
