A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his two daughters because their mother died of an illness, police in Japan said.
Sodegaura police said that they have arrested 46-year-old Nobuya Amaha, after being accused of killing his daughters by poisoning them with carbon monoxide.
According to the police investigation, Amaha became depressed after the death of his wife. On Monday, he locked himself in the bathroom of his home along with his two daughters, Sae, 23 and Nami, 22.
He burned coal until the three passed out from the fumes.
Earlier in the day, Amaha sent an email to his family members, saying that he was contemplating suicide. Several family members called the police to check on the man.
Officers went to the Amaha’s home, where they found him and his two daughters unconscious in the bathroom. They were taken to a nearby hospital, where Sae and Nami were pronounced dead.
Amaha recovered, and has admitted to killing his daughters.
He told investigators that he and his daughters were worried about their future.
