(Scroll down for video) A man with Down syndrome became a celebrity in his hometown in New Mexico, after he opened and ran his own restaurant.
Tim Harris opened Tim’s Place and ran it for 5 years. He had many satisfied customers. Before customers left, they walked up to Harris to get a hug.
The restaurant became known for the many hugs Harris has been giving out over the years. The amount of hugs given were displayed on an electronic monitor inside the restaurant.
Harris of Albuquerque, is the first person in the country with Down syndrome to own a restaurant.
However, as much as he loved his restaurant, Harris made the difficult decision to close it so he can be closer to the woman he loves.
Harris met his girlfriend Tiffani Johnson at the National Down Syndrome Congress Convention. The two started dating this summer.
However, the long distance relationship was not easy for the couple. Now, Harris decided to move to Colorado, in order to be closer to Johnson.
Johnson did not take her boyfriend’s decision lightly. She had tears in her eyes when talking about the love Harris is showing her by choosing her over his first love, the Tim’s Place.
“To have a guy who picks his girlfriend over his restaurant, oh my God, he loves me enough to actually do this,” an emotional Johnson said.
Johnson spoke of her desire to marry Harris and to start a family with him. Harris smiled as he wants the same.
Harris said that he is planning to open a restaurant in Denver next year.
