A couple was robbed by their daughter’s boyfriend while they were at a party.
The Summerfield family of Marion County, Florida, called police after their 19-year-old daughter's boyfriend went into their home while they were away.
Lisa Stafford, 40, said that she and her family attended a pool party, when her daughter's boyfriend, Michael Land, kept calling and asking questions about what they were doing.
The family got a bad feeling about his repeated calls for updates on their plans. Stafford and her boyfriend, Donnie Leonard, also residents at the home, decided to go check on their house.
Stafford went to her closet where she left his bag of money and she found that $1,300 went missing.
She told investigators that she had taken the cash out of her safe and put in into her purse because she was going to meet a real estate agent.
They were going to use the money as a down payment for the home.
Land was banned from their home because he had allegedly stolen money from them in the past.
Police spoke to neighbors of Summerfield, who said that they saw Land with his white car at the house. The 19-year-old woman asked Land to come to her house, where police were waiting for him.
They questioned Land and he claimed that he only had $20 on him, which he used to buy food at McDonald’s. A cashier at McDonald's told police that she saw Land with at least 2 $100 bills.
Land was arrested and his bail was set at $6,000.
