Now, the a school in North Port, will pay each affected family $200,000 after their loved ones died.
According to the police investigation, 17-year-old Brittany Palumbo and 16-year-old Wesley McKinley committed suicide after being hypnotized by principal George Kenney.
16-year-old Marcus Freeman, died in a car accident, and Kenney admitted to teaching McKinley how to self hypnotize.
The investigation found that despite repeated warnings from the school board, Kenney hypnotized about 70 students and staff.
One of the basketball players was hypnotized up to 40 times, in order to improve concentration. It is unclear whether hypnosis and the deaths were related.
Kenney was placed on administrative leave and later resigned.
He pleaded no contest to two counts of practicing hypnosis without a license. He was sentenced to a year probation.
