|Company asking customers to rape them|
A fashion shop is being slammed for using the term “rape” to attract shoppers during a recent sale.
Fashion retailer SuperGurl, urged their customers to “come rape us” on its website next to a picture of a girl in a suggestive pose.
After being criticized, the advertisement was removed. A spokesperson for the company, Jordus Lim, published an apology on SuperGurl’s social networking accounts.
Lim said that the ad was not meant to be offensive to anyone.
He said that he had been unable to review the work of the graphic designer before giving his approval for the image to be displayed on the website.
On its website, SuperGurl describes itself as an online destination for fun and free spirit.
In an apology on its website, Lim wrote: “I am writing this to express our sincerest apologies pertaining to our insensitive action and the choice of the word rape during our sale.
“We did not mean for it to be offensive to anyone, and I extend my sincerest apology.
As the director of the company, I have failed to review my graphic designer’s work before approving the image to be displayed on our site.
“I hereby acknowledge that we have made a mistake, and that our caption does not advocate the right values to young women.
“Having regretted what we have done, the team at Supergurl will definitely be more careful with what we will put up in the future as this is also a lesson learned for us.
“This was an honest mistake that we have made on our side, and we do know that it is indefensible. We hope that the public will accept our apology.”
