(Scroll down for video) Police have arrested a teenager who accidentally killed his friend who slept over at his home.

Police in Arizona, said that 19-year-old Nathaniel Thomas of Chandler, wanted to pull a prank on his sleeping friend by waking him up to the sound of a gun clicking close to his face.

However, he did not realize that the gun contained a bullet, and his friend, Gage Bodenheimer, was shot in the head and died.

Thomas then called 911 around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, and fabricated a story about shooting an intruder.

police said that Thomas, told them he was in his apartment in a complex in the 400 block of North Coronado Street, when a stranger came through the sliding door to the second floor patio.

Thomas allegedly told police that the man seemed angry and reached under his sweatshirt. That’s when Thomas pulled out his gun and shot him in self-defense.

However, after examining forensic evidence and interviewing people who slept over at the apartment belonging to Thomas, detectives determined that the story of an intruder breaking into the home, was not true.

Bodenheimer had actually been in the apartment overnight, and was the victim of a prank that went very wrong.

Thomas eventually changed his story and said that the gun went off when Bodenheimer reached for it.

Police said that Thomas, has a lot of experience with guns. He took his first firearms safety class when he was five years old.

Thomas was charged with second-degree murder and indifference to human life.
