A man was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly locking up his business partner in a hotel laundry room and beating him with an iron bar because he failed to deliver gold bars, police in the United Arab Emirates said.
Dubai police said that they have arrested the 44-year-old man identified as F. N. after being accused of torturing 54-year-old L. B. for 12 hours, at the Jumeirah Beach Residence.
According to the police investigation, the suspect and the victim were staying at the Jumeirah Beach Residence, where they awaited a shipment of gold bars.
The suspect became angry with his business partner after the shipment failed to arrive. The suspect took away the victim’s cellphone, wallet and passport before dragging him into the laundry room.
Once there, the suspect beat the victim with an iron bar. The suspect also assaulted the victim with hot water. Luckily, after 12 hours, the suspect allowed the victim to call his family members to ask them to wire money.
The victim told his family members that he was being held captive, and they notified the police. Police officers who arrived at the scene, found the victim lying on a bed and bleeding.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and he confessed to the assault. He also apologized to the victim.
