(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his girlfriend and burning her body in the bathtub of her home, police in New York said.
The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 27-year-old Carlos Pineda of Queens, after he was seen on video walking into his girlfriend’s apartment with a can of gasoline before she was found burned.
Pineda was charged with second-degree murder, second-degree arson, first-degree reckless endangerment and tampering with physical evidence.
He is being held without bail, and he faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
According to the police investigation, Pineda allegedly killed his live-in girlfriend, Miriam Lucrecia Samayoa Veliz, 28, by squeezing her neck.
Pineda was then seen on video surveillance leaving the apartment building just after 3:00 a.m.
He was seen returning to the location with a red container that is commonly used to hold gasoline approximately 20 minutes later.
Pineda has then been observed on surveillance video
leaving the building a second time around 4:00 a.m., just before the fire department was called to report a fire at the building.
Firefighters discovered the burned remains of Veliz in the bathtub of her home.
