A pregnant woman is worried about her health after eating a salad that contained a bloody finger tip.

Cathleen Martin of Atascadero, California, said that she found the bloodied finger in a chicken salad at the Applebee’s restaurant in Paso Robles.

Atascadero was with her husband and son in the restaurant when she discovered the fingertip on her plate.

“It was so disgusting,” Martin, who is expecting her second child, said in a press release. “I’m worried about what my family might have been exposed to,” she said.

Her attorney Eric Traut, said that the manager confirmed the fingertip belonged to a chef. Management confirmed that the employee had injured himself while making the salad.

Applebee’s said that they cannot force the cook to undergo medical tests, but the cook has volunteered to do so.

“A body part in food is very rare,” Traut said. “We get calls to represent people who were hurt by foreign objects in food, things that have broken teeth or cut the throats. This makes your skin crawl,” he said.

Traut released a photo of the finger tip that was found in Martin’s salad. The claim is the precursor to a lawsuit. It seeks unspecified damages, medical expenses and lost income.
