City officials were fired after they demolished a hospital and injured people inside.

Bulldozers approached the Fourth Hospital of Zhengzhou University in China, and demolished it while patients were being treated.

The surprise demolition occurred because the Huiji District government wanted to build a road on the property, but the hospital’s management refused to relocate.

They did agree to remove the hospital’s gates and another two-story building. Those were demolished a few months ago.

However, the hospital declined to relocate its radiology department and morgue, so city officials decided to take matters into their own hands.

They launched a surprise attack and demolished the property. Most people fled or were carried away from the area. However,
some doctors were injured as they tried to protect the expensive equipment.

Six bodies being prepared in the mortuary were covered by falling debris.

It is estimated that about 4 million yuan ($607,000) worth of radiological equipment was destroyed in the surprise demolition.
