An elderly man who wanted a chance to win the $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot, fell into a deep hole while walking to a kiosk, police in Texas said.
The Fort Worth Police Department said that they found the 67-year-old man, who was not identified, in the seven-foot deep hole after his family reported him missing.
On Monday, officers responded to a call of the missing 67-year-old grandfather. His family members reported that he left his home and walked to a store to buy a Powerball lottery ticket.
As it became dark outside and he did not return to his home, his family called the police who launched a search for him.
Officers were aware that the man had medical issues and were joined by a police helicopter as they searched for him. During the search, an officer observed a large open construction hole and went to the scene.
The hole was 7 feet deep, and in the bottom of it, lying in cold water, was the missing man. The officer jumped into the hole to give him aid and called for assistance.
“Because of the quick thinking and dedication the officers exhibited, this man and his family can say they truly won the biggest lottery of all,” the Fort Worth Police Department said on Facebook.
The man did not suffer any injuries.
