A man was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty after allegedly killing his girlfriend’s dog because he didn’t want to take it for a walk, police in New York said.
The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 32-year-old Carlos Hernandez of Queens, after being accused of killing his girlfriend’s dog in front of her 11-year-old daughter.
Hernandez was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, fourth-degree criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child.
If convicted, Hernandez faces up to four years in prison.
According to the police investigation, Hernandez was inside his
girlfriend’s home around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, and engaged in a verbal dispute with her.
After refusing to walk the dog, Hernandez grabbed the Chihuahua out of her hands and slammed the dog against the floor, causing it to bleed from its ears and collapse on the floor, where it died minutes later.
The 11-year-old daughter of Karem Belalcazar, was present in the room and witnessed the violent incident.
