65-year-old Larry R. Lotz of Illinois, shot his wife after they got into an argument over leaving the coffee machine on at their home in Barrington, prosecutors said.
Emergency crews were called around 12:45 a.m. on Friday, to the house in the 400 block of North Cook Street, where 59-year-old Karen Lotz was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
She was taken to the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Officers said that Lotz admitted to killing his wife.
He told police that he went to his office above the garage of their home after he and his wife got into an argument because he left the coffee machine in the kitchen.
When his wife followed him into the office, he shot her four times while sitting at his desk, prosecutors said.
Lotz is being held on $3 million bail. He faces a charge of first-degree murder for killing his wife.
