Police launched an investigation after five young children were found dead inside a locked freezer, police in South Africa said.
Kakamas police said that the children, who are cousins, were found by their grandmother on Tuesday around 6:00 p.m.
The grandmother told investigators that she went looking for the children, aged between three and seven, after they were not seen for a few hours.
Around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the children’s grandmother found all of them suffocated inside an old freezer in her yard, police said.
It is believed that the freezer accidentally locked itself while the children were playing inside it. So far, no charges have been filed.
