(Scroll down for video) A young boy in India, was forced to marry a dog in a public ceremony after his family believed that his first wife will die because of his bad luck.

7-year-old Mukesh Kerai, who lives in Manik Bazaar, married the dog in public after his parents believed predictions that his first wife will die young.

In an effort to avoid a tragedy, they put a dog in a wedding dress and made it the boy’s first wife. Like a regular wedding, neighbors danced and cheered in celebration of the young couple.

After the ceremony, the dog was released back into the wild.

The boy’s grandfather, 43-year-old Ashok Kumar Leyangi, said that he believes the marriage will prevent any bad luck in the future.

The grandfather also said that this is a traditional practice in the community, and it is the responsibility of adults to keep the children safe and happy.
