A suicidal woman is being investigated after police found her dead baby in the freezer of her home, police in Florida said.

Homestead police said that the 4-month-old son of 37-year-old Paola Vargas-Ortiz, was found in the freezer of the home located at 2482 NE 3 Court.

So far, no charges have been filed as police are waiting for the result of an autopsy to determine the baby’s cause of death.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said that they responded to a call about a suicidal woman around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Police officers who arrive at the scene found Vargas-Ortiz on the Seven Mile Bridge, and she threatened to jump off. She told officers that she threw her 4-month-old son into the water.

She quickly retracted that statement and said the child was in her home. Divers searched the area, but found nothing.

Meanwhile, police went to the woman’s home and found the 4-month-old boy in the freezer. Vargas-Ortiz told police that she ingested rat poison.

She was taken by ambulance to the Jackson Memorial Hospital.
