A man was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly biting off his roommate’s nose because he didn’t open the door when he came home late at night, police in Nigeria said.

Lagos police said that they have arrested 40-year-old Augustine Orivba, after being accused of assaulting his roommate, Henry Obocha, who did not open the door for him late at night.

Orivba was charged with one count of assault and one count of breach of the peace. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $1,000.

If convicted, Orivba faces up to three years in prison. According to the police investigation, around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Orivba came home from work and knocked on the door.

After a few minutes of knocking, Orivba broke down the door and saw that Obocha was sleeping. Orivba woke up his roommate and began yelling at him for not opening the door.

Orivba usually comes home late at night.

Neighbors told investigators that Orivba was seen knocking on the front door numerous times, but on Tuesday, Orivba became violent.

Orivba is accused of punching Obocha in the face before biting off a piece of his nose.
