(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct after allegedly disobeying firefighters and running into a burning house in order to save his dogs, police in Florida said.
Brevard County police said that they have arrested 58-year-old Wendell Joyner, after being accused of grabbing an ax belonging to the Brevard County Fire Rescue and throwing it through the window of his home.
Joyner was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail, and was released on bail.
According to the police investigation, the Brevard County Fire Rescue were called to a home at 2387 Victor Road around 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, after someone called 911 to report a fire.
Firefighters who arrived at the scene, found that the house was full of smoke. Joyner left the house, but then realized that his three dogs were still inside.
He quickly ran back inside to rescue them, but had to come out in order to catch his breath. Feeling desperate, he grabbed an ax and threw it at the front window in order to gain access to his dogs.
That is when police officers arrested him. Joyner was taken to a hospital for treatment before being taken to jail, Police said that they suspected Joyner was intoxicated when they arrived, and feared what could have done with the ax.
Joyner’s dogs were rescued by the Brevard County Fire Rescue, and they are said to be in good condition.
