(Scroll down for video) A man led police on a high-speed chase before jumping into a police car in an attempt to get away.
Police in Washington, said that a car thief who was running from police in Tacoma, tried to steal a police patrol car and ended up sitting on the lap of an officer.
Fife police Lt. Tom Thompson said that officers spotted David Boulet acting suspiciously at a motel around 8:30 p.m. A patrol officer stopped to check the license plate of the car he was driving.
The officer then learned that the car was stolen. The officer attempted to pull him over, but Boulet led them on a chase before he jumped out and ran.
Police said that Boulet climbed a fence and ran through traffic. Meanwhile, a Tacoma police officer who was listening to police talking about the chase over the radio, pulled over at the Port of Tacoma overpass with his red and blue lights on.
When Boulet spotted the officer’s car, he thought is was empty and decided to use it as a getaway vehicle.
Boulet ran to the car, opened the door and sat on the lap of the officer, apparently unaware that the officer was still behind the wheel.
Thompson said the officer was surprised at first, but he then recognized the man as the wanted suspect.
The officer tackled Boulet to the ground and placed him under arrest.
