A woman was arrested on a charge of battery after allegedly biting off the finger of an elderly man who lives with her in a group home, police in Florida said.
The Gainesville Police Department said that they have arrested 52-year-old Linda Kay Swift, after being accused of beating the 89-year-old man who was not identified.
Swift was charged with aggravated battery on a person age 65 or older. She was booked into the Alachua County Jail, and her bail was set at $500,000.
According to the police investigation, Swift and the victim live together in a group home located at 1201 NW Sixth Street.
About 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Swift struck the man in the head and chest several times in an unprovoked attack. Swift then bit off two of his fingers.
Police officers who arrived at the scene, observed that the man was missing the index and the ring fingers Swift then bit into the elderly man’s hand, ripping off a significant amount of skin.
As a result of the attack, the man was permanently disfigured and he lost a significant amount of blood.
