The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 25-year-old Angel Feliz-Volquez of the Bronx, after being accused of slitting the throat of 59-year-old Carmen Torres-Gonzalez.
Feliz-Volquez was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. He was booked into jail, and he was denied bail.
According to the police investigation, Feliz-Volquez attacked the woman with a machete as she was talking with her mother’s home attendant.
The suspect chopped off the victim’s hands and then slit her throat. He left her lying in a pool of blood in the hallway around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The woman was declared dead at the scene. The police later found Feliz-Volquez in his apartment, which is in the same building and on the same floor as the victim.
Officers recovered the machete in the hallway. Neighbors described the suspect as “the mental guy.”
