A man was arrested on a charge of arson after allegedly setting himself and his home on fire because his wife reused to prepare fish for dinner, police in Kenya said.
Bungoma police said that they have arrested Ibrahim Makokha, after being treated at a hospital for burns on 60 percent of his body.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, when Makokha asked his wife to cook fish for dinner. Makokha’s wife, who was not identified, refused the request and a fight broke out.
The wife decided that she had enough from her abusive husband and ran away from the home. Makokha went back into his home and locked the door.
He then lied down on his bed and set it on fire. The fire quickly spread to the rest of the house, and neighbors called the fire department for help.
Makokha was pulled out of the house moments before the roof collapsed. He was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for burns.
Makokha told police that he tried to kill himself because his wife refused to cook fish for dinner. He was charged with one count of arson.
