Police in Florida, saved a choking pelican and wrote about it on Facebook.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said that animal services officers saved the pelican after it swallowed a fish and its head became lodged in the animal’s throat.

Officers Heather Belknap and Kimberly Guile, responded to a call of a sick pelican near the dock at Sandsprit Park, police wrote on Facebook.

Officer Belknap was able to capture the struggling animal and he immediately realized that it had something lodged in its throat.

Officer Guile assisted Officer Belknap, by holding the pelican, while Officer Belknap opened its beak and inserted her arm into the bird’s mouth.

Within a few seconds, she was able to pull out a large fish head that was lodged in the animal’s throat.

“The pelican immediately displayed signs of relief, and was released back into the water,” police said.

“We can’t brag enough about the great work our animal services unit does, but some of their rescues are so incredible, we just have to share,” they wrote.
