(Scroll down for video) Police are looking to arrest a driver on a charge of animal cruelty after allegedly deliberately running over numerous kangaroos with his car, police in Australia said.

Brisbane police said that the driver, who was not identified, deliberately ran over at least 17 kangaroos, killing them.

It all happened in the space of 300 feet and within two minutes. The bodies of 16 dead kangaroos were found along the road.

Another kangaroo was injured so badly that it had to be euthanized. The stretch of road runs between a women’s prison and a men’s prison on Grindle Road.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) of Australia, said that it was shocked by the death of the animals.

Most were very young. Investigators noticed tire marks on the road, indicating that the driver deliberately rammed into the animals.

The driver was not found and the police and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals appealed for any witnesses to provide information.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has announced a $5,000 reward for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the driver who killed the 17 kangaroos.
