(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of murder after killing both of his elderly parents in separate incidents, police in New York said.
Now, 39-year-old Gregory Cucchiara of Queens, has been convicted of two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the killings of 66-year-old Giusepina Cucchiara and 75-year-old Carmelo Cucchiara.
According to the police investigation, Giusepina Cucchiara was found dead in the family’s home located on 28 Avenue. She had been struck on the head with a perfume bottle and choked with the pearl necklace.
Her son then dragged her to a bathtub and held her head under water until she died.
After the incident, Carmelo Cucchiara moved out of the home he shared with his son and wife, and went to live with his daughter.
One morning, the daughter found him lying in bed with a pillow covering his face. He had bruising on his forehead and his body was cold to the touch.
The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation. Gregory Cucchiara had visited his father the previous evening and was the last person to see him alive.
DNA evidence found under the fingernails of both victims were matched to their only son, Gregory Cucchiara.
