(Scroll down for video) A young girl lost her nose after a dog attacked her in the front yard of her home, police in Australia said.
The incident unfolded on Thursday in Sydney, after a family friend brought the dog to the 5-year-old girl’s home.
The girl is recovering at the Children’s Hospital of Westmead.
Most of the girl’s nose was chewed off during the incident, and she suffered facial cuts as well. The girl is in stable condition.
The dog has been handed over to the Holroyd Local Council, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
Police Inspector Robert Toynton described the attack as “horrendous,” and urged people to take care of their pets especially around food and young children.
According to the police investigation, food could have been a contributing factor in the attack.
