(Scroll down for video) A teacher was banned from being around her children after having sex with a teenage girl.
Laura Garrigus, 30, of North Carolina, was a biology teacher at the Cumberland International Early College, where she met a student and had sex with her.
Garrigus, who is a married woman and mother of three children, is accused of having an improper physical relationship with a 17-year-old girl for about two months, according to police.
Garrigus was charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a student and two counts of sexual offense with a student.
She is being held on bail of $50,000. The judge told Garrigus that she is not allowed to have any contact with children under 18.
District Court Judge Cheri Siler-Mack made it clear that the order included her own two sons and daughter.
Investigators said that evidence in this case shows that the girl consented to the sex acts and 17 years old is the age of legal consent in North Carolina.
Despite the alleged victim’s age and regardless of consent, under state law, students and teachers may not engage in inappropriate relationships and that is why the teacher was arrested.
