(Scroll down for video) A child may suffer a speech impediment after a doctor performed a surgery on him by accident.
The baby’s parents of Tennessee, are outraged over a medical error that caused the doctor to perform a tongue-clipping on their son after mixing him up with another baby.
Not long after baby Nate was born in the University Medical Center in Lebanon, his parents took him back for a routine physical examination.
Jennifer Melton said that when her son was brought back to her and her husband, a nurse mentioned something about a procedure that had been done.
They were confused. The nurse explained that surgeons had to cut the flap of skin under Nate’s tongue. Melton said that her child did not need the procedure.
The doctor who performed the procedure, admitted his mistake and apologized. He explained that he had asked for the wrong baby as he needed to perform the procedure on a different child.
The family is very worried about how little Nate will develop as he might face speech or eating problems, attorney Clint Kelly said.
