The Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office said that 36-year-old Suzanne Story, was mauled by her pit bull while she was cleaning its crate.

The incident unfolded around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in the 1200 block of Snug Harbor Road. According to the police investigation, Story got the pit bull named Buddy, about a week ago after seeing an ad in a newspaper.

The ad said that the dog was good with small children. The previous owner of the dog was identified as Cheryl Davino Norfolk.

The mother of the woman said that Story was cleaning the dog’s crate at the time of the attack. Story’s sister was home when the dog attacked and she tried to stop it, but could not.

The sister suffered light injuries. Paramedics who arrived at the scene, confirmed that Story was dead. Story left behind two daughters aged 15 and 17.

Animal control officers took the dog into custody, and it will be euthanized on Thursday.
