A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing the 2-year-old son of his fiancee and then marrying her a week later, police in New Jersey said.
Atlantic City police said that they have arrested 21-year-old Jagger T. Jost, after being accused of killing 2-year-old Vernon Gaylord Sylver Jr.
An autopsy revealed that Vernon’s cause of death was complications of blunt-force trauma to the abdomen. He then married the child’s mother, 23-year-old Tiffany Jost, a week later.
Jost was not the father of the child. Jost was charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse. He was booked into the Atlantic County jail, and is being held without bail.
Tiffany Jost defended her husband, saying that he did not kill her son. She claims that her son was playing with bricks when he fell and hurt his stomach.
Police believe that Jagger T. Jost punched the child in the stomach, causing his death.
