A dumb car thief was arrested after leaving his car keys in his victim’s vehicle, police in Utah said.
Police in Washington City, were called when a man found a set of keys that did not belong to him on the driver’s seat of his car.
The man also reported that some items from his car were stolen.
Police said that they have also received calls from other people in the neighborhood who reported that their cars had been broken into and burglarized.
Officers took the set of keys, which included the key to a Ford vehicle, a Ford key fob and a house key. They then drove around the area to locate the car.
Police pressed the panic button on the key fob until they located the gray Ford Focus.
Police said that the car is registered to William Michael Leavitt. Inside the car, police found items that were stolen from cars in the neighborhood, according to the arrest report.
Leavitt was arrested, and he faces 10 counts of burglary of a vehicle, theft, felony unlawful acquisition of a financial card and possession of another’s identifying documents.
