An elderly woman in the United Kingdom, revealed that she became heartbroken after her 53-year-old stove suddenly stopped working.
92-year-old Winifred Hughes of Crewe, bought a Belling Classic stove in 1963.
When Hughes first bought the stove, she couldn’t afford to pay the 79 pounds (1,500 pounds or $2,807 adjusted for inflation) for it at once, so she worked out a payment plan with the company.
Hughes said that the oven turned out to be a bargain as she used it almost every day for the past 53 years. The stove cooked meals for her family of five every day, including a roast dinner every Sunday.
Hughes pulled out the inner parts of the oven to clean it every Sunday. The only time the Belling stove broke was when a shelf fell on it and sliced off a knob.
At some point, the timer stopped working, but it did not really matter. Unfortunately, last week, the thermostat broke, causing the oven to stop working.
Hughes said that she is heartbroken that her beloved Belling stove no longer works.
