A man was arrested on a charge of drug trafficking after allegedly swallowing 128 capsules of heroin in order to smuggle them into the country, police in the United Arab Emirates said.
Ras Al Khaimah police said that they have arrested the smuggler identified as A.K.K., after being accused of trying to smuggle heroin from Pakistan into the country in exchange for cash.
He was charged with one count of drug trafficking. Police said that they received a tip about the suspect before he arrived at the airport.
Several police officers waited at the airport for the suspect to arrive. The officers monitored the passenger upon arrival, and he looked worried and scared.
He was detained for questioning, and he confessed to having heroin capsules in the stomach. He was taken to a hospital, where 128 capsules were removed from his stomach.
The 128 capsules of heroin weighed three pounds, and is worth around $136,130.
