A black businessman in Canada, who was speaking with a woman about work at a restaurant, was shocked when police arrived to question him.
Laval police said that they were called to investigate 23-year-old Moctar Mbaye, after he was mistaken for a pimp.
Mbaye told police that he does not work in an office, so when I had to interview the woman about a job opening, they agreed to meet at the coffee shop.
At some point during the interview, the police approached him and asked to speak with him. Mbaye was shocked and surprised as he could not figure out what he had done wrong.
Police told him that someone in the coffee shop called them to say that he was a pimp hiring the woman for prostitution. After running his name through a database, Mbaye was allowed to continue his interview.
Mbaye said that despite the encounter with the police, the woman will be starting her new job in a few weeks.
Mbaye uploaded a video about his encounter with the police on Facebook, in order to raise awareness about the issue of racial profiling.
