(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing a liquor store owner, setting a homeless man on fire and burning two police officers, police in New York said.
The New York Police Department said that they have arrested 23-year-old James Patrick Dillon of Queens, after going on a murderous crime spree that lasted several hours.
According to the police investigation, the crime spree began around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Dillon approached 39-year-old Berta Carpio and slashed her on the cheek and the back of the head.
Carpio was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released.
Around 3:00 p.m., Dillon went into the Astoria Liquors and Wines on Astoria Boulevard, and stabbed the owner, 55-year-old George Patouhas.
Patouhas died at the scene. Dillon then doused a 61-year-old homeless man with flammable liquid inside the store and set him on fire.
He was taken to a hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition. Around 5:45 p.m., Dillon tried to break into a woman’s home.
Police officers who arrived at the scene, confronted Dillon. He was armed with a knife and had a Corona beer bottle filled with flammable liquid.
He splashed the officers with the liquid and set them on fire.
Dillon was shot and arrested. The injured officers were taken to a hospital, where they were treated and released.
