A man was set on fire while threatening to burn police officers, according to police in Australia.

Police in Sydney, were called to a house on Regent Street in Riverstone, because a man was trying to cut a wooden power pole with a chainsaw.

When police attempted to speak with the suspect, he allegedly doused them with gasoline and threatened to set them on fire.

The 51-year-old man also poured gasoline on himself. The officers came to the front of his house and used pepper spray and a Taser to take him into custody.

When the Taser was deployed, the man’s clothes caught on fire. Officers quickly extinguished the flames and the man ran into his house. He then refused to come outside.

After an hour of negotiations with special units, the man finally surrendered and was arrested by the police. He was airlifted to Westmead Hospital, where he was treated for minor burns and placed under police surveillance.

The man is said to be in a stable condition. A senior officer was also taken to the hospital after gasoline got into his eyes. The officer is also in a stable condition.
