Sneaky tenants took advantage of their landlord by adding a clause that forces the homeowner to buy birthday cakes.

Glorious Gherkins went on Reddit, to mock his landlord over his cleaver addition to the lease.

The naughty tenants were sent a lease to sign by the homeowner, but instead of sending a regular document, the property owner sent them a Word document, which they were able to edit.

The tenants took the opportunity to add a clause that the landlord has to deliver a free birthday cake twice a year
on both of their birthdays.

The owner then signed the document, apparently without realizing that it was altered.

“Lessor shall provide birthday cake for Lessees on the weekend closest to their birthdays, which are June 7 and February 17,” the newly amended clause 16 reads.

The tenants took the opportunity one step further, and they added their personal tastes, specifying that “vanilla cake is not acceptable.”

Gherkins uploaded a photo of the lease to the Internet, and wrote: “My lease came as a Word file instead of PDF. I made a slight change before signing it. He signed it after I made the change, and I’m going to hold him to it.”

Some people pointed out that in clause 17 the tenants agreed to cut the lawn and clean the trash. “You added cake, but chose to not edit out mowing the lawn?” One person asked.
