(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly mowing down a police officer who was involved in an accident with a woman, police in New Jersey said.
Elizabeth police said that they have arrested 35-year-old William Espinal-Mejia, after being accused of killing 25-year-old Officer Vincent Harrison, who worked for the New York Police Department.
Espinal-Mejia was charged with one count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $100,000.
According to the police investigation, Harrison hit the car of a 26-year-old woman who was traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday.
Harrison got out of his vehicle and approached the woman.
The woman was in the driver’s seat and her 2-year-old son was in the back. The two got into a verbal dispute before Harrison drew his gun and pointed it at the woman.
The officer then threatened to kill the woman. Her repeated the threats several times before backing away for the woman’s car.
As Harrison turned away, he was hit by Espinal-Mejia’s vehicle.
Harrison died at the scene. No charges will be filed against the woman.
