A stupid man was arrested for robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint while a police officer was behind their car.
Police in Pennsylvania, said that an officer was at the right place at the right time when he came to the rescue of the driver who was being robbed at gunpoint.
Deputy Terry Ely was waiting at a red light behind a Reading Metro cab that was stopped for the traffic light at North 10th and Buttonwood streets.
When the light turned green about 4:30 p.m., the cab driver, who was identified as Ralph Valletta, did not move. When the light turned red again, the officer decided to investigate.
Ely heard the driver begging the passenger “just please don’t shoot me.” The officer ordered the suspect out of the car and arrested the passenger, who was identified 18-year-old Victor Martinez-Herrer.
Police then reviewed the cab security cameras, which showed the passenger, whose head and face were covered, pulling a gun on the driver and demanding all of his money.
The driver had $11 on him and handed it over to the thief before the officer arrived to save him.
Police retrieved the weapon, which turned out to be a pellet gun.
Martinez-Herrer was charged with robbery, terroristic threats and simple assault. He was booked into the Berks County Jail, and his bail was set at $100,000.
