A man was arrested on a charge of international travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with minors after flying from California to Cambodia, in order to have sex with young girls, Assistant U.S. Attorney Vanessa Baehr-Jones said.

Now, 55-year-old Ronald “John” Gerard Boyajian of Southland, faces up to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of international travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct with minors, engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in foreign places and commission of a felony offense involving a minor while required to register as a sex offender.

According to the police investigation, Boyajian traveled from Los Angeles to Cambodia, about 8,000 miles, 36 times over a seven year period.

He engaged in sexual activity with girls from Vietnam, between the ages of 8 and 11.

One of the victims who flew into the country for the trial, told the court that Boyajian paid her grandmother to leave her alone with him in a log cabin.

She described being raped, beaten and bitten on the legs by Boyajian.
