A man went to the police to report a couple after buying their baby as a gift to his sister.

Police in China, arrested the teenage couple for selling their baby to the man after meeting him on social media.

The father, who was identified as 19-year-old A Duan of Fujian, posted an ad, saying that he was looking to sell his 2-week-old baby for 23,000 Yuan (about $3,500).

A man responded, bought the baby from the couple, and handed the baby over to his sister as a gift.

The baby’s mother Xiao Mei, 19, told police that she was adopted and many people in her hometown send their kids to other people to raise them, and therefore, she did not know that it was illegal to sell a baby.

The couple said that the pregnancy was not planned. They struggled to support themselves and were unable to support a baby.

The couple used the money from selling the baby for an iPhone and a motor scooter.

In court, Duan was sentenced to three years in prison. Xiao Mei was given a two and a half year suspended sentence because she is taking care of her disabled parents and is helping raise her younger brother.
