The Lakeland Police Department said that they have arrested 35-year-old Samuel Alicea, after being found unconscious on the department’s bathroom floor, following an overdose of heroin.

Alicea was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. After being treated and released from the Lakeland Regional Health hospital, Alicea was booked into the Polk County Jail.

According to the police, Alicea entered their building around 7:30 a.m. on Friday, and went to the public bathroom located in the lobby.

One of the officers who heard a loud sound coming from the bathroom, knocked on the door several times and shouted for Alicea to respond.

When he did not get a response, officers used a key to enter the bathroom and found Alicea lying on the ground unconscious.

The officers saw that Alicea left several items in the sink, included measuring spoons, small plastic bags commonly used to store drugs and a syringe.
