A man was arrested for kidnapping his grandmother after forcing her to drive for many hours.
The 22-year-old man of Salem, Oregon, then forced his 87-year-old grandmother to drive for 12 hours while he was smoking methamphetamine in the back seat of the car.
According to police, Robert White held a knife to his own throat and smoked weed while forcing his grandmother to drive him around.
The elderly woman told police that her family had been trying to help White deal with his addiction to meth, and she paid for him to be in a hotel room for a few days, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday, the grandmother picked him up from the hotel as she no longer had money to pay for the room.
The 22-year-old man got into the back seat of his car and put a knife to his throat. He told her to drive as he smoked methamphetamine and rambled about being followed by police for the past nine months.
About 8: 00 a.m. on Sunday, White called 911. The GPS technology helped deputies find the suspect. The grandmother was very tired from driving for so long, but she was not hurt, officials said.
White faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, possession of methamphetamine, menacing, criminal mischief and violating an order of protection, which did not allow him to be around his grandmother.
