A member of parliament in Romania, was charged with bribery after giving away thousands of pounds of fried chicken to voters in exchange for votes.
Now, Florin Aurelian Popescu, a Liberal Democrat, has resigned from parliament after being convicted of bribery.
According to the investigation, Popescu ordered 130,000 pounds of fried chicken from a restaurant and gave the food away to anyone who agreed to vote for him.
Every piece of chicken was given away for election purposes, prosecutors told the court. Popescu went on to win a seat in parliament.
Popescu has spent about $100,000 for the fried chicken. After hearing all the evidence, a judge has sentenced the politician to serve two years in prison.
