A man was jailed for raping a 12-year-old girl who he met on Facebook.

The perverted man flew from his home in the Netherlands to England, to rape the child after befriending her on Facebook.

The girl’s parents learned about the sexual abuse after receiving a call from a clinic, informing them that their young daughter came for the morning after pill.

The clinic was required to inform the parents due to her young age.

Police learned that 21-year-old Steven Van de Veld, who was crowned as Dutch champion volleyball player, flew 400 miles to meet the girl.

He meet the girl and had sex with her in her house in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.

A European warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was extradited to the United Kingdom.

Van de Veld was brought in front of Judge Francis Sheridan in Aylesbury Crown Court, where he was found guilty of the sex abuse charges.

Van de Velde cried as he heard how his victim had self-harmed since the incident.

Van de Velde was sentenced to four years for each of the three counts of rape to run concurrently, and he was placed on the Sex Offender’s Register indefinitely.
