A man of the United Kingdom, was jailed after he deliberately set his bed on fire because he was angry with his roommates.
20-year-old Kyle Petho of Lancashire, called firefighters to report that his bed was on fire while his two teenage roommates were at home.
The Preston Crown Court heard how Petho, set his own bed on fire and he also tried to set a blaze in a shared hallway by igniting a row of toilet paper rolls.
Petho called the emergency services about 11:30 p.m., and calmly admitted to starting the fire.
When the operator asked if there were people in the house, Petho replied: “I don’t know and I don’t care.” He then told the operator he would “take whatever punishment is coming my way.”
Luckily, Tyler Overfield, 18, heard the alarm and found the burning toilet paper rolls. He managed to put out the fire and threw the rolls outside.
He and another roommate managed to run out of the house before firefighters arrived to the scene.
Petho pleaded guilty to causing arson with intent to endanger life at the multiple occupancy house in Leyland. He was sentenced to serve three years and four months in a young offenders’ institution.
